History
Founded in 2009 by Valerie Lewin Montano, the Denver Chorale has grown from a passionate vision into a beloved cultural presence throughout the Denver metro area. Under Valerie’s leadership, the Chorale has brought people together through music, performing everywhere from community celebrations, vigils, schools, and nursing homes to Christmas parades, Rockies games, and even the stage of Carnegie Hall. Guided by Valerie’s original belief in the transformative power of music, the Denver Chorale has become known not only for its performances, but for its spirit of connection, inclusion, and joy.
After Valerie’s retirement in 2026, the Denver Chorale welcomed Dr. Baker L. Purdon as its new artistic director. Building upon the strong foundation and vibrant community Valerie created, Dr. Purdon now carries forward the Chorale’s legacy of musical excellence, connection, and service while leading the organization into its next chapter of growth and artistic innovation.
